Desire + Johnny Jewel

Desire come to Rotown with dream pop for broken hearts, neon-lit dancefloors and cinematic synths. The Canadian project, formed in Montréal and now active from Los Angeles, moves between synthpop, fashion and film, led by frontwoman Megan Louise and producer Johnny Jewel.

Their best-known track, Under Your Spell, became a cult favourite after appearing in the film Drive in 2011. The song had already been released in 2009, but that soundtrack moment gave it a whole second life. Moody lighting, slow heartbreak and a synth line that basically refuses to leave. Very dangerous.

The evening also features a solo set from Johnny Jewel, known for Chromatics, Glass Candy, his label Italians Do It Better and his work for Twin Peaks. Desire’s music has also found a place in fashion, with tracks used by houses including Dior, Chanel, Versace and Fendi. Their album Escape includes songs in English, French and Korean.
