Description
Kiwi Jr. comes to Rotown in Rotterdam with jangly indie rock that sounds sunnier than its Canadian origin might suggest. The five-piece is from Ontario, but its music nods strongly towards New Zealand guitar pop in the spirit of The Clean and The Chills, filtered through the looser indie and garage instincts of Pavement and The Modern Lovers.
After previous releases on the respected Sub Pop label, Kiwi Jr. now arrives in Rotterdam ahead of a forthcoming fourth album. On record, the band can sound dry, laid-back and lightly scruffy, but live the songs reportedly gain more speed, bite and energy. That makes this a good one for anyone who likes their janglepop with a little garage dust on its shoes.
Expect sharp hooks, restless guitars and a set that may start out slacker on paper, but should feel far more urgent once the band hits the Rotown stage.
