Dutch death metal institution Asphyx heads to the new Baroeg in Rotterdam for a line-up that keeps things unapologetically heavy. Joined by fellow Dutch acts Bodyfarm and Mouflon, this show brings together three bands rooted firmly in death metal, with Asphyx standing as the central draw.

The name Asphyx carries real weight in the genre. Active since the late 1980s, the band has long held its place through sheer force, grinding riffs and a refusal to soften its approach. While the line-up shifted over the years, the current formation has remained stable since 2014 and continues to deliver the kind of blunt, punishing death metal that made the band a worldwide reference point in the first place. This is not a nostalgic exercise either. The appeal lies in how direct and uncompromising the music still feels, with that old-school brutality very much intact.

With Bodyfarm and Mouflon completing the bill, the evening looks set to give Rotterdam a full night of homegrown extremity.

Description

Baroeg is a legendary subcultural pop venue in Rotterdam, known as the city’s home base for hard and alternative music. Since the early 1980s it has been the go-to spot for metal, punk, hardcore, rock, gothic, industrial, psychobilly and other underground styles. What started as an open youth centre grew into a full pop podium with a loyal community and its own annual festival, Baroeg Open Air. 

The venue sits in the Lombardijen neighbourhood by the Spinozapark and has an intimate club vibe: a compact hall with a low stage, solid sound system and a bar where artists and visitors mingle. For many underground and alternative fans in Rotterdam, Baroeg is less a random venue and more a second living room.
