Edu Ribeiro Trio invites Seamus Blake
Event

- Category:
- Live Music in Rotterdam
Description
Brazilian drummer Edu Ribeiro returns to Rotterdam with a project that brings together serious jazz pedigree and a spirit of open musical conversation. Caipora, released on Blaxstream Jazz, grew out of Ribeiro’s meeting with Canadian saxophonist Seamus Blake, and the result is presented as a meeting point where different backgrounds find a shared language through jazz.
Ribeiro is described here as one of Brazil’s most respected drummers, a Grammy winner best known in part for Trio Corrente, who previously appeared at LantarenVenster. His wider career includes work with names such as João Bosco, Randy Brecker, Chris Potter, Brad Mehldau, Ivan Lins and Ron Carter. Blake, meanwhile, is framed as one of the major tenor saxophonists of his generation, known for lyrical but powerful playing, with credits including Wayne Shorter, John Scofield and Maria Schneider. The line-up is completed by guitarist Vinícius Gomes, whose refined sound bridges jazz and Brazilian music, and bassist Doug Weiss, a veteran player with a formidable résumé of his own.
Taken together, it sounds like a quartet built for subtle interplay as much as virtuosity, and the setting at LantarenVenster should suit that kind of detail very well.
