A five-piece band from Togo with a talent for turning tradition into a dancefloor command, Nana Benz Du Togo bring a high-voltage mix of voodoo-rooted rhythms, electro, soul and Afrobeat to Grounds in Rotterdam. The pitch is direct: an infectious surge of energy designed to pull you in fast and keep you moving until you forget what time it is.

The group’s name nods to the “Nana Benz”, influential Togolese women who became well known in the 1970s through the trade in colourful African wax prints. That sense of colour and character is part of the band’s identity too, with a sound described as humorous, empowering and boldly vibrant.

Their set is built with an inventive toolkit: voices up front, PVC pipes and drums made from recycled materials providing raw punch, and a vintage Korg keyboard adding bite and bounce. After a standout performance at North Sea Jazz the year before, they are now lined up to bring that same spark to Grounds.

They are also developing a second stage, Lab Grounds, in the historic HBS building in the city centre's Oude Westen district, aiming to transform it into a significant creative hub for musicians and dancers.
