Soft-spoken folk with a quietly glowing warmth comes to Rotterdam as Alela Diane plays LantarenVenster. Known for intimate, restrained songs carried by a warm voice, Diane first drew wide attention with The Pirate’s Gospel, a debut steeped in what the listing calls “campfire gospel”, with subtle guitar, piano textures, and mantra-like repetition letting gospel influences seep in.

Her brand of gently psychedelic folk sits comfortably in the “New Weird America” corner of the genre, and a new album is mentioned as arriving this spring. A recommended starting point is the title track The Pirate’s Gospel. Fans of Mariee Sioux, Jesca Hoop, Joanna Newsom, and Vashti Bunyan should feel right at home here.
