Groove-first jazz with Janek Gwizdala and Clarence Penn
“It’s jazz. It just doesn’t sound like it.” That’s how guitarist Oz Noy describes his high-energy blend of jazz, funk, rock, blues and R&B. Born in Israel, he started playing young and moved to New York in the mid-90s, where his playing quickly stood out for one thing above all: groove.
Noy recorded his first album Oz Live at The Bitter End and went on to work with a seriously wide range of musicians, from Richard Bona and Toni Braxton to Dave Weckl and Mike Stern. For this LantarenVenster date, he brings a tight trio with bassist Janek Gwizdala and drummer Clarence Penn, promising a night that leans into virtuosity without losing the feel.
