Description

Belgian vocal ensemble Vox Luminis brings a festive baroque programme to the Grote Zaal of de Doelen in Rotterdam, centred around Johann Sebastian Bach’s Magnificat in D. Known for its clear sound and detailed phrasing, the ensemble focuses on music from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and appears regularly in leading concert halls across Europe. In this Rotterdam performance, their warm ensemble sound is paired with repertoire that fits the December concert season.

The programme opens with Telemann’s Uns ist ein Kind geboren, followed by Bach’s cantata Christen, ätzet diesen Tag and the large-scale Magnificat in D. Together, these works frame the Christmas story in music full of contrast, from intimate chorales to bright choral movements and jubilant trumpets. Under the direction of Lionel Meunier, Vox Luminis presents this baroque evening as part of de Doelen’s December Special series in the centre of the city.
