Kin’Gongolo Kiniata

Description

Kin’Gongolo Kiniata returns to Grounds with an energetic mix of experimental Afropop, punk and electronic Congolese rhythms straight from the streets of Kinshasa.

The group creates much of its distinctive sound using instruments built from recycled materials. Wooden boards, tin cans, plastic bottles and empty beer crates become percussion and homemade instruments, capturing the noise and movement of everyday life in the Congolese capital.

Their music combines these unusual textures with danceable rhythms and the raw energy of punk. Behind the party atmosphere are songs dealing with hope, perseverance and life in Kinshasa. Since making their European debut at Trans Musicales in 2022, Kin’Gongolo Kiniata has performed across France, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal and the Netherlands.

The 2027 show brings the band back to Grounds after well-received Rotterdam performances in 2024 and 2026.
