Joy Division Undercover

Description

Joy Division Undercover brings the dark, intense sound of Joy Division to Baroeg as part of a tour marking 50 years since the beginnings of the influential Manchester band.

The Dutch tribute act focuses firmly on the music rather than imitation or costumes. Expect songs ranging from Disorder to Love Will Tear Us Apart, performed by musicians with a long history in the Dutch alternative scene. Singer Erny Green and guitarist Henk Koorn of Hallo Venray are among the members of a group that has been performing Joy Division’s catalogue for well over a decade.

The concert forms part of Baroeg’s 80’s & More! series. DJs CO2 and Donkerzwart continue the evening with post-punk and new wave classics before and after the live set.

Description

Baroeg is a legendary subcultural pop venue in Rotterdam, known as the city’s home base for hard and alternative music. Since the early 1980s it has been the go-to spot for metal, punk, hardcore, rock, gothic, industrial, psychobilly and other underground styles. What started as an open youth centre grew into a full pop podium with a loyal community and its own annual festival, Baroeg Open Air.

The venue sits in the Lombardijen neighbourhood by the Spinozapark and has an intimate club vibe: a compact hall with a low stage, solid sound system and a bar where artists and visitors mingle. For many underground and alternative fans in Rotterdam, Baroeg is less a random venue and more a second living room.
