Description

Canadian duo Softcult comes to Rotown with a heavy but dreamy mix of grunge, shoegaze, dream pop and punk.

Twin sisters Phoenix and Mercedes Arn-Horn pair dense guitars with floating vocals, combining the weight of alternative rock with the hazier textures of shoegaze. Their songs tackle subjects including social inequality and self-discovery, while influences range from the riot grrrl movement to My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Deftones.

Over the past few years, Softcult has become one of the notable names in the new wave of shoegaze, balancing distortion and atmosphere with strong melodic songwriting. Listeners of Wolf Alice, Slowdive, Swim School and Deftones should find familiar territory here.
