Film concert: BL!NDMAN & Donnie Darko

Cult film Donnie Darko returns to the big screen at LantarenVenster, this time accompanied by a live soundtrack performed by saxophone quartet BL!NDMAN.

Richard Kelly’s 2001 film follows troubled teenager Donnie, played by a young Jake Gyllenhaal, through a strange mix of coming-of-age drama, nightmare and apocalyptic satire. What initially struggled at the box office went on to become one of the defining cult films of its era.

For this special screening, BL!NDMAN performs a newly composed score live alongside the film. Brooding saxophones, electronics, electric guitar and atmospheric soundscapes add another layer to its unsettling world. The original 1980s songs by artists including Echo & the Bunnymen, Duran Duran and Joy Division remain part of the film.

The performance marks 25 years since Donnie Darko was released and is presented as a one-off film concert at LantarenVenster.
