EHBO

Four distinctive figures from Dutch jazz and improvised music come together as EHBO: Han Bennink, Ernst Glerum, Benjamin Herman and Oscar Jan Hoogland.

The quartet was formed during the Han Bennink Vierdaagse at Amsterdam’s Roode Bioscoop in 2025. What started as a meeting between musicians from different generations quickly developed into a touring group, including an earlier sold-out appearance at LantarenVenster. The four return with the same line-up, although with improvisation at the heart of the project, the music is guaranteed to take a different direction each time.

Drummer Han Bennink has worked with jazz greats including Dexter Gordon and Sonny Rollins and co-founded the influential Instant Composers Pool. Bassist Ernst Glerum is another longtime figure in Dutch improvised music, while saxophonist Benjamin Herman is widely known through New Cool Collective and his many projects as a bandleader. Pianist Oscar Jan Hoogland completes the quartet, bringing his own place within Amsterdam’s contemporary improvisation scene.

Expect an afternoon where composition and free improvisation constantly interact, with four musicians responding to each other in the moment.
