Discophonic Orchestra

Discophonic Orchestra returns to Nieuwe Luxor with a full live celebration of disco and funk. The 30-piece orchestra brings the biggest disco hits of the 1970s and 1980s to the stage, with ten strings, six horns, a rhythm section and seven vocalists.

The programme features music associated with Donna Summer, Barry White, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kool & the Gang, Bee Gees, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, The Real Thing, Chic, The Trammps and The Love Unlimited Orchestra. Expect a night of lush strings, punchy brass, strong grooves and the unmistakable sound of the disco era.

Discophonic Orchestra was founded in 2014 by jazz trombonist and arranger Lex van Wel, whose love for the orchestral and rhythmic richness of 1970s disco sits at the heart of the project. Together, the ensemble brings that sound back to life with the scale and energy of a live orchestra.

This is a festive trip back to the glory days of disco, with enough glitter, funk and dancefloor feeling to keep Nieuwe Luxor moving.
