Description

Possessed come to Baroeg with Sinsaenum for a night rooted deep in death metal history. The American band remains one of the genre’s key names, with their 1985 debut album Seven Churches still regarded as a crucial record in the development of death metal, while also carrying lyrical links to early black metal.

Frontman Jeff Becerra remains the band’s infernal centre. After a violent robbery in 1989 left him partially paralysed, he continued to lead Possessed with the same force and vocal intensity that made the band notorious in the first place. Their 2019 album Revelations of Oblivion proved that Possessed are not simply leaning on their past, but still very capable of sounding vicious, sharp and relevant.

Their previous Baroeg show in 2019 already showed that Becerra and the band still know exactly how to summon the old fire. With Sinsaenum also on the bill, this is one for metal fans who like their riffs heavy, their vocals demonic and their Tuesday evenings lightly scorched. 🔥

Description

Baroeg is a legendary subcultural pop venue in Rotterdam, known as the city’s home base for hard and alternative music. Since the early 1980s it has been the go-to spot for metal, punk, hardcore, rock, gothic, industrial, psychobilly and other underground styles. What started as an open youth centre grew into a full pop podium with a loyal community and its own annual festival, Baroeg Open Air. 

The venue sits in the Lombardijen neighbourhood by the Spinozapark and has an intimate club vibe: a compact hall with a low stage, solid sound system and a bar where artists and visitors mingle. For many underground and alternative fans in Rotterdam, Baroeg is less a random venue and more a second living room.
