Benjamin Herman: European Alto Festival
Event

- Category:
- Live Music in Rotterdam
Description
Benjamin Herman presents the seventh edition of the European Alto Festival at LantarenVenster, bringing together three alto saxophonists for an afternoon devoted to the expressive range of the instrument. The festival is Herman’s personal ode to the alto saxophone and to saxophonist Piet Noordijk, who died in 2011.
This edition features special guests Rachael Cohen and Irene Reig, two players from different corners of the European jazz scene. Cohen, a familiar name at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, is known for expressive and adventurous playing, while Barcelona-born Reig brings a warm, energetic and open approach to the stage.
Together with Herman, they explore the richness of the alto saxophone tradition, backed by a strong rhythm section with Miguel Rodriguez on piano, Veerle van der Wal on double bass and Alexia Harpa on drums. The result is a seated concert built around musical fire, craft and virtuosity across borders.
