The Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest presents a Russian programme shaped by exile, upheaval and artistic renewal. Prokofiev’s The Love for Three Oranges suite and Sinfonia Concertante sit alongside Shostakovich’s First Symphony, written when the composer was only nineteen.

The concert looks back to a turning point in Russian music after the Revolution, when several major composers had left the country. With Andris Poga conducting and cellist Nicolas Altstaedt as soloist, this afternoon performance in de Doelen brings together wit, tension and symphonic brilliance.
