The Orkest van de 18e Eeuw joins soprano Elisabeth Hetherington for By Her Absence – A Portrait of Marianna Martines, a concert built around one of Vienna’s overlooked musical voices. The programme brings Martines back into focus through music, movement and storytelling, placing her work alongside Haydn and a new commission by Kate Moore.
At de Doelen, the performance gives Rotterdam audiences a chance to hear music history with some of its missing pages restored. Martines was once admired as a singer, keyboard player and composer, yet her name faded after her death. This concert places her voice, quite literally and historically, back in the room.
