In the grip of winter: Gorefunest + Rotten Remains + Severe Mania

Description

The first In the Grip of Winter edition of 2026 puts the originals on pause and goes all-in on covers and tributes, turning SoundVille into an afternoon celebration of metal classics. It is built as a singalong-friendly, pit-ready line-up, with three Dutch acts each taking a different corner of heavy music and leaning into the joy of familiar songs played loud.

Top of the bill is Gorefunest, a tribute to Dutch death metal institution Gorefest. The listing notes that the original band no longer exists, but that a group of former Metal Factory students decided the legacy deserved a live continuation, with tracks like Get-A-Life and Confessions of a Serial Killer as part of the set.

Rotten Remains brings death metal covers with a wider net, mixing obvious crowd-pleasers with deeper cuts. The band members come with a long CV across the Dutch extreme-metal underground, with the listing naming connections to acts such as Ulcerate Fester, Deification, Abrupt Demise, Rotten Casket, Anarchos, Pulverizer and Pernicious.

Opening the day is Severe Mania, a thrash-focused covers band from Twente, built for classic riffs and fast hands. Expect staples from Slayer, Megadeth, Sodom, Sepultura, Exodus and Sacred Reich, plus musicians with roots in other heavy projects, including Elise and Pulmonary Abscess.

Description

SoundVille is a small, independent live music venue and pop centre in Rotterdam-Zuid. It combines a cosy live stage with rehearsal rooms and a recording studio, which makes it a hub for local bands, underground scenes and niche genres. The venue programmes a lot of alternative guitar music – think indie, post-punk, wave, metal and tribute nights – often in collaboration with Baroeg’s Baroeg On Tour events.

Tucked away by the edge of the Zuiderpark, SoundVille has an intimate capacity of around 100 people, a simple bar, and a no-nonsense DIY atmosphere that suits underground and alternative shows perfectly.
