Holland Dance Festival: FireWorks by Gauthier Dance Rotterdam

For the anniversary edition of Holland Dance Festival, Gauthier Dance Rotterdam arrives in the city with FireWorks, a fast-moving evening that brings big-name choreography and a younger generation of dancers into the same spotlight. The concept is simple: make it relentless, make it varied, and keep the surprises coming.

The first half is built around ten brand-new short works, each shaped by carefully chosen music and a distinct atmosphere. The choreographers named in the programme include Mauro Bigonzetti, Virginie Brunelle, Stijn Celis, Dominique Dumais, Marco Goecke, Johan Inger, Barak Marshall, Benjamin Millepied and Sofia Nappi, promising a kaleidoscope of styles rather than a single signature look.

The second half shifts to four repertoire highlights from Gauthier Dance, revived with new accents. The listing singles out Lickety-Split by Alejandro Cerrudo and ABC by Eric Gauthier, presented as familiar pieces given fresh shine. The grand finale brings Gauthier Dance and Gauthier Dance Juniors together in Ravel’s Boléro, performed on trampolines, with the build-up turning into an all-out rush of jumps, shouts, and confetti-fuelled energy.
