Anúna – a mystical Christmas

Irish choir Anúna brings its Christmas programme A Mystical Christmas to de Doelen, transforming the Jurriaanse Zaal into an intimate, candlelit soundscape in the centre of Rotterdam. Known as the original choir of Riverdance, Anúna draws on medieval texts, sacred music and old folk traditions, creating a blend of a cappella singing, chant and atmospheric choral works that sit between classical, folk and spiritual repertoire. 

Under the direction of composer and tenor Michael McGlynn, the singers are known to move through the auditorium as they perform, surrounding the audience with close-harmony vocals, rhythmic songs and meditative pieces. The Christmas programme in Rotterdam includes familiar carols alongside lesser-known works, presented with simple staging, dark formal costumes and flickering candlelight that underline the contemplative character of the evening. Fans of Riverdance, Clannad and Celtic choral music will recognise the Irish roots and cinematic quality that have made Anúna a regular December guest in Dutch concert halls.
