Senegalese musician, singer, and composer Momi Maiga (b. 1997) is a virtuoso of the kora — the West African harp. His music weaves together traditional rhythms from Gambia and Senegal with flamenco and jazz, creating a fluid, genre-blending sound. Known for his smooth vocals and strong compositional talent, Maiga sings in Mandinka and Wolof.

Born in Gambia and raised in Senegal’s Casamance region, Maiga comes from the renowned Cissokho family of griots — the traditional storytellers and keepers of West African heritage, long known as the builders and players of the kora. He began performing at the age of six and has since developed a musical voice that bridges cultures and generations.

Following his acclaimed debut album Nio, Maiga returns to LantarenVenster with Kairo, a stunning follow-up that continues his journey of melodic storytelling and cultural dialogue.
