Triple bill of raw emotion and virtuoso blues at LantarenVenster

The 34th edition of An Evening with the Blues brings three generations of blues talent to LantarenVenster. In partnership with St. Betuws Blues & Jazz, this twelfth Rotterdam edition celebrates the soul, grit and timeless energy of the genre — from Missouri to Chicago and Northern Ireland.

19:30 – Marquise Knox
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Marquise Knox grew up surrounded by blues tradition. Mentored by his grandmother Lilly Mae and inspired by legends such as Jimmy Reed, Boo Boo Davis and Pinetop Perkins, Knox developed a deep, soulful guitar style rooted in storytelling. He has shared the stage with B.B. King and Joe Bonamassa, proving that the future of the blues is in good hands.

21:00 – John Primer & Giles Robson Band
A true meeting of masters: Chicago blues veteran John Primer, former guitarist for Muddy Waters and Magic Slim, joins forces with award-winning British harmonica player Giles Robson. Together they deliver Ten Chicago Blues Classics — a heartfelt homage to the roots of electric blues, rich in experience, authenticity and soul.

22:30 – Kaz Hawkins
Closing the evening is Kaz Hawkins, the powerhouse Irish singer often called the European Etta James. Blending blues, soul, folk and jazz into her signature “Celtic Soul” style, Hawkins turns every show into an emotional journey. Her songs tackle themes like domestic abuse and mental health with courage and honesty — delivered through a voice that’s both tender and explosive.
