Description

Long-time duo partners Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy bring a searching two-piano dialogue to Rotterdam’s de Doelen (Jurriaanse Zaal). Their programme sets the worlds of Bach and Shostakovich in conversation: preludes and fugues are played solo and four-handedly, passed between the pianists, and at times paired so that a prelude by one composer meets a fugue by the other. The result is a personal journey through tension and kinship—Shostakovich’s inner voice under political pressure, his lifelong admiration for Bach, and the threads that bind them across time.

Kolesnikov, the Russian-British poet of the keyboard, is renowned for his imaginative programming and associative clarity; Tsoy, the Kazakh-British pianist with a distinctive artistic signature, is praised for depth, refinement and narrative sweep. Together they illuminate familiar masterpieces from fresh angles, revealing hidden connections with uncommon finesse.
