Description
Bassist Alessandro Fongaro, known for his work with Sun-Mi Hong, Ambergris and Brainteaser Orchestra, brings his chordless quartet Pietre to de Doelen for the release of their debut studio album. Meaning “stones” in Italian, Pietre is a raw outcry of resilience and love, music that lurches forward as though stumbling after a fall yet always pushing ahead. With stories of friendship and longing woven into its sound, the group balances intensity with sensitivity.
The ensemble, led by Fongaro, features two saxophonists whose expansive range is anchored by the tight interplay between bass and drums. Their earlier live debut First time (a)live marked the end of lockdown with an electrifying recording of their very first concert. Now with Pietre, the quartet solidifies its place as a rising force in the European jazz scene.
