Description

The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra brings Stravinsky’s magical ballet The Firebird to life in a performance designed for children aged four and up. The story follows Prince Ivan, who sneaks into the enchanted garden of a giant sorcerer and encounters the Firebird with its flaming feathers. Together, they attempt to free thirteen other birds trapped in a golden cage. With its fairytale atmosphere and vivid orchestration, Stravinsky’s music sweeps young listeners into a world of adventure and wonder.

Aimed at introducing children to classical music, the concert combines storytelling, orchestral performance and theatrical elements. As one audience member put it: “The story, the music, the interaction between orchestra and actor — it was spot on from beginning to end. What a wonderful way to introduce children to classical music!”
