Known for his soulful voice and wide-ranging musical style, Jeangu Macrooy returns to Rotterdam’s stage in 2025 with a new theatre concert and album, Young, Awkward & Lonely. Following his starring role in Jesus Christ Superstar, Macrooy’s latest work reflects on life’s awkwardness and the search for connection. The performance begins intimately before expanding into a large ensemble, with support from his band and singers from the Zo! Gospel Choir. The songs blend personal reflections with social themes such as queerness and colonialism.

Macrooy first emerged on the Dutch music scene with his 2017 debut album High On You, quickly earning recognition at major festivals and award nominations. His recent studio album Summer Moon (2022) mixed soulful vocals with electronic and disco influences, while his theatre role in Jesus Christ Superstar (2024) underlined his versatility as a performer.

The Oude Luxor Theater, originally opened in 1917, is a historic landmark in the heart of Rotterdam. With its classic theater ambiance, it has been a beloved venue for over a century, hosting legendary cabaret performances, stand-up comedy, plays, and intimate musical productions. Despite being severely damaged during World War II, the theater was restored and remains an essential part of Rotterdam’s cultural scene. Seating around 900 guests, the Oude Luxor is cherished for its cozy, nostalgic atmosphere, attracting both established and up-and-coming artists.
