Funk and soul sensation Michelle David & The True-Tones return to LantarenVenster with music from their latest album Soul Woman. Their previous shows were a guaranteed party — and this one promises to be no different!

In search of the roots of rhythm & blues, rock ’n’ roll and soul, musicians Onno Smit and Paul Willemsen were captivated by the raw energy of this genre. Having played in bands like Beans & Fatback and Lefties Soul Connection, they teamed up with American singer Michelle David and began a journey tracing soul back to its roots.

Born in North Carolina and raised in New York, Michelle David was singing in church by the age of four and was performing with her first gospel group The Mission of Love before she was ten. Her powerful voice and commanding stage presence leave no one untouched — whether in clubs, churches or on festival stages. Together with The True-Tones, Michelle David channels the essence of gospel and soul, weaving in sounds from Mali, the Caribbean, New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta.
