Benjamin Herman – European Alto Festival

This autumn, Benjamin Herman presents the sixth edition of the European Alto Festival — his personal tribute to the alto saxophone and to saxophonist Piet Noordijk, who passed away in 2011. Through this concert series, Herman continues his mission to highlight the alto sax and introduce Dutch audiences to leading international talent. Each year, he invites his personal favourites — not only to amaze, but to inspire.

Under Herman’s artistic direction, this year’s spotlight falls on two extraordinary young musicians: Japanese alto saxophonist Erena Terakubo (b. 1992) and South Korean talent Miru Han. Together, they showcase the rich sound and expressive power of the alto saxophone. They’re joined on stage by a tight-knit rhythm section: Timothy Banchet (piano), Veerle van der Wal (bass), and Yoràn Vroom (drums).

Herman’s dedication to international saxophone excellence remains unwavering. He will also tour Japan this autumn, culminating in a performance at the Expo cultural programme. His global perspective and border-defying musical style lie at the heart of the European Alto Festival — where connection, exploration, and sonic renewal know no bounds.
