Dvořák Serenade for Strings: Sinfonia Rotterdam and Duo Mantar

Sinfonia Rotterdam presents an evening of classical music at de Doelen on Saturday 7 November 2026, featuring Antonín Dvořák's beloved Serenade for Strings alongside works by Henryk Górecki and Avner Dorman. Conducted by Conrad van Alphen, the concert also features Duo Mantar, bringing the unusual combination of mandolin and classical guitar to the orchestra.

The programme explores the relationship between historical musical traditions and contemporary composition. Dvořák's Serenade for Strings is celebrated for its graceful melodies, lively rhythms and influences from Bohemian folk music. From its elegant waltz to its expressive slow movements, the work remains a favourite of the string orchestra repertoire.

A Dutch premiere for mandolin and guitar

A particular highlight is the Dutch premiere of Avner Dorman's Double Concerto for Mandolin and Guitar, performed by Duo Mantar. Mandolinist Jacob Reuven and guitarist Adam Levin combine their instruments in a virtuosic musical dialogue with the orchestra, moving between energetic rhythms and intimate melodic passages.

The evening opens with Górecki's Three Pieces in Old Style, a composition drawing inspiration from Renaissance music and traditional melodic forms.
