Martha High & The Funky Divas

Soul veteran Martha High comes to Podium Islemunda with The Funky Divas for a night celebrating the women who helped shape funk and soul.

High spent more than 30 years as one of James Brown's leading backing vocalists, performing on stage during the era that produced classics such as Papa's Got a Brand New Bag and I Got You (I Feel Good). She later toured for 16 years with saxophonist Maceo Parker and has shared stages with artists including Aretha Franklin, Prince, Michael Jackson and B.B. King.

With The Funky Divas, she turns the spotlight towards the original soul sisters of the 1960s. The show pays tribute to artists including Lyn Collins, Marva Whitney, Vicki Anderson and Aretha Franklin, with songs such as Respect and Think (About It) alongside the funk sound Martha High helped bring to stages around the world.

Expect a standing concert built around powerful vocals, tight grooves and the connection between the James Brown era and generations of women in funk and soul.
