Ão

Belgian-Portuguese quartet Ão comes to LantarenVenster with a warm, hypnotic blend of electronic music, art pop, alternative Latin and Portuguese saudade.

At the centre is singer Brenda Corijn, whose Mozambican-Portuguese background shapes both the language and emotional character of the band’s music. She sings in Portuguese and English, surrounded by layered electronics, southern European guitar textures and eclectic percussion. Instruments including charango, tiple and cuíca add further colour to the group’s sound.

After debut album Ao Mar received a MIA nomination, Ão followed it with Malandra in 2026. The newer material is more rhythmic, playful and expansive, moving between intimate moments and increasingly danceable passages. The band has since appeared at festivals including Best Kept Secret and North Sea Jazz.
