Jelle x Tarang x TIIGRI: The Circle Where Two Worlds Collide

Three Rotterdam artists come together at LantarenVenster for an unusual lying-down concert combining Indian music, improvisation, electronics and immersive soundscapes.

Guitarist Jelle Roozenburg and tabla player Tarang Poddar work at the intersection of jazz, improvisation and composition, moving between Indian rhythms, beats, breaks and drones. For this performance, they are joined by TIIGRI, the stage name of Ishtar Bakhtali, whose background in South Indian classical music meets influences from jazz, electronics and Latin music.

The concert is part of LantarenVenster’s In The Round series. Rather than sitting in conventional rows, the audience lies on yoga mats around the musicians while the trio performs in the middle of the room. The format changes the relationship between performer and audience, giving the musicians space to improvise and react to each other while listeners experience the music from inside the soundscape. Yoga mats are provided.
