Description
Cellist and composer Tomeka Reid brings her quartet to LantarenVenster with dance! skip! hop!, a programme where adventurous jazz, classical influences and an unmistakable sense of groove meet.
Reid emerged from Chicago’s experimental jazz scene and has become known for making the cello feel equally at home in melodic, abstract and rhythmically driven music. Her compositions can stretch out across long forms while remaining playful and surprisingly direct.
The quartet features guitarist Mary Halvorson, bassist Jason Roebke and drummer Tomas Fujiwara. Together, they balance improvisation with carefully shaped compositions, while Reid also draws on musical memories connected to several generations of her family in Wyoming.
After appearing at North Sea Jazz, the Tomeka Reid Quartet now makes its first appearance at LantarenVenster.
