Kika Sprangers Quintet: river, river

Kika Sprangers brings river, river to LantarenVenster with her quintet: a new album project built around small-band intimacy, melancholic colour and narrative jazz. The concert is listed for Friday 27 November 2026 at 20:30 at LantarenVenster, Otto Reuchlinweg 996.

The river is the central image in this project. It becomes a metaphor for human life: how people develop, move, find their own route, meander or suddenly surge forward. Sprangers grew up near the river, and that connection feeds into music shaped by memory, identity and movement.

With her fixed band, she presents the music in an acoustic line-up where Wurlitzer and the human voice play a key role. The sound is organic and instantly recognisable, especially through the blend of Anna Serierse’s voice and Sprangers’ saxophone.

Sprangers won the 2025 Edison Jazz Nationaal with her Large Ensemble for the album (In)finity. She also wrote the North Sea Jazz composition commission for the Nederlands Kamerkoor and released Morning with the international band Beiggja, praised by international press.

Expect poetic jazz, warm ensemble playing and a band that lets the music flow without forcing the current. Very fitting, really. 🎷
