Isaiah Collier comes to BIRD with Collier Plays Coltrane, a special talk and concert celebrating 100 years since the birth of John Coltrane. The acclaimed saxophonist, composer and creative visionary explores Coltrane’s musical and spiritual legacy through conversation and a powerful live performance.

Named “The Next Sax Giant” by DownBeat Magazine, Collier has emerged from Chicago’s vibrant creative scene with a reputation for bold, forward-looking jazz. His work as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, curator, activist and educator has brought him into collaboration with artists including Angel Bat Dawid’s Brotherhood, Chance The Rapper, Wadada Leo Smith III and Junius Paul.

His latest album with The Chosen Few, Cosmic Transitions, received a five-star review from DownBeat and was recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s legendary studio on Coltrane’s birthday, using some of the same analogue equipment from the original A Love Supreme sessions. The result pays deep respect to jazz tradition while looking firmly ahead.
