Jasper Høiby’s 3Elements

Jasper Høiby brings his 3Elements project to LantarenVenster with pianist Xavi Torres and drummer Naíma Acuña. The concert marks the third release in the Danish bassist’s trilogy, a series in which each album places him alongside a different set of musicians.

The new album, Conversations of Hope, follows Earthness and Like Water and completes the trilogy with a trio that puts the double bass firmly at the centre. Høiby, best known from Phronesis, continues that band’s sense of movement and tension, but opens the music up with clear melodic ideas, shifting time signatures and a strong feeling of space.

Torres brings focused harmonic playing on piano, while Acuña’s precise and driving drums give the music its lift. Together, the trio creates jazz that moves quickly, hits with force and still leaves room to breathe.
