Trio Da Kali brings the deep musical traditions of southern Mali to Grounds in Rotterdam. The group comes from the Mande culture and is rooted in a long lineage of griots, hereditary musicians whose role reaches beyond performance into storytelling and memory. With vocals, ngoni and balafon, the trio creates music that feels both intimate and resonant, grounded in tradition yet open to new directions.

Their 2025 debut album Bagola expands that foundation by drawing in traces of jazz, Afro-Mexican music and classical composition, while still keeping the heart of Malian music intact. Live, that mix promises a concert with warmth, depth and a strong sense of atmosphere. At Grounds, this looks set to be one of those evenings where musical heritage and contemporary imagination meet in a way that feels quietly spellbinding.
