Scott Kinsey Group plays Weather Report

Fusion at full voltage comes to Rotterdam when the Scott Kinsey Group brings an electric, improvisation-led set to LantarenVenster, built around new music as well as a tribute to Weather Report, the groundbreaking jazz-rock band founded in 1970 and closely associated with Joe Zawinul. The programme also includes material from Kinsey’s new album Thought Distortions, alongside original compositions that keep the sound modern, bright, and rhythmically sharp.

Kinsey, a keyboardist, composer and producer, is framed here as one of the key voices in contemporary electric jazz. Known from Tribal Tech and collaborations with Joe Zawinul and John McLaughlin, he has also worked with players such as Kurt Rosenwinkel and Michael Landau, and contributed to projects including Ocean’s 11. With The Zawinul Legacy Band 2.0, he’s been keeping Zawinul’s spirit alive, and this Rotterdam show follows that thread in a way that feels less like a museum tribute and more like a living, breathing continuation.

On stage, Kinsey is joined by a crackling line-up: guitarist Nir Felder, bassist Frederico Heliodoro, drummer Gergo Borlai, and vocalist Mer Sal. Expect dense electric textures, layered rhythms, and plenty of room for improvisation, connecting classic fusion tradition to a current-day sound.
