Talent Break – in collaboration with RPhO Academy

Talent Break brings the next generation of orchestral musicians to the Eduard Flipse Zaal at de Doelen for a short lunchtime concert in the heart of Rotterdam. Six young talents from the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra Academy, selected after a demanding audition process, present chamber music works that form part of their intensive training year. Coached by members of the Rotterdam Philharmonic, they gain stage experience in symphonic and chamber settings before heading into international careers. 

In this 30-minute concert, audiences get a close-up view of the quartet and quintet repertoire that the Academy focuses on in the 2025–2026 season. The programme includes Shostakovich’s Adagio & Allegretto for string quartet, Glazunov’s Reverie Orientale for clarinet and strings, and the first movement of York Bowen’s Horn Quintet, written for string quartet with horn. With players from Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain and Italy, the Academy line-up reflects Rotterdam’s international character as well as the city’s strong orchestral tradition.
