Description
Modern desert blues from Algeria returns to Grounds
Algerian band Imarhan stands at the forefront of a new generation of Tuareg musicians, breathing new life into Assouf — the desert blues sound. With hypnotic guitar lines, rich rhythms and heartfelt lyrics, their music captures the tension between the vastness of the Sahara and the pulse of modern city life.
Formed in 2006 by frontman Iyad Moussa Ben Abderrahmane, Imarhan’s sound fuses ancestral Tuareg roots with Sub-Saharan melodies and rock influences from both Algeria and the West. The result is vibrant, rhythmic, and deeply emotional — a fresh evolution of the desert blues tradition pioneered by Tinariwen.

Description
Grounds is a vibrant platform where audiences can experience groundbreaking music from emerging and renowned international artists across diverse genres. The venue hosts weekly concerts featuring styles ranging from Turkish folk to Afro beats, Latin to Sahara blues, providing a rich tapestry of global sounds.
Beyond live performances, Grounds actively contributes to the cultural climate of Rotterdam West by offering a stage for local talents and organising community events. They are also developing a second stage, Lab Grounds, in the historic HBS building in the city centre's Oude Westen district, aiming to transform it into a significant creative hub for musicians and dancers.
