Ethio-jazz explorers return to Rotterdam. A hypnotic blend of afrobeat, dub and oriental grooves.

For over a decade, Black Flower has been breaking boundaries with their kaleidoscopic fusion of Ethio-jazz, afrobeat, dub, and Eastern-inspired rhythms. Their latest album Kinetic (2025) dives even deeper into jazz’s transformative power — rejecting patterns, embracing change, and celebrating movement through sound.

Fans of John Zorn, Fela Kuti and Mulatu Astatke can expect a genre-defying night of bold experimentation and dynamic groove. After a blazing set at North Sea Jazz, Black Flower is back to make GROUNDS sway once again.

Beyond live performances, Grounds actively contributes to the cultural climate of Rotterdam West by offering a stage for local talents and organising community events. They are also developing a second stage, Lab Grounds, in the historic HBS building in the city centre's Oude Westen district, aiming to transform it into a significant creative hub for musicians and dancers.
