Description
American trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas returns to LantarenVenster with music from Four Freedoms, an album inspired by the four freedoms articulated by US president Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want and freedom from fear.
Douglas translates these ideas into contemporary jazz compositions written specifically for his current quartet. He is joined by pianist Marta Warelis, bassist Nick Dunston and drummer Joey Baron, giving the music plenty of room for interaction, improvisation and rhythmic detail.
Active since the 1980s, Douglas has recorded hundreds of albums and worked with musicians ranging from Horace Silver to Tom Waits. He was also an important member of John Zorn’s influential Masada ensemble.
