Popronde brings emerging talent to Rotterdam
The Popronde Rotterdam music festival has announced its full programme for this year’s event, which will take place on Saturday, 9 November 2024. A total of 91 performances will be held across 41 different locations throughout the city, all free of charge. The festival will feature a diverse selection of bands, producers, rappers, and various other up-and-coming musical acts.
Popronde is recognised as the largest travelling music festival in the Netherlands. Each autumn, approximately 100 emerging bands tour 41 Dutch cities, performing in unexpected venues. The festival has a reputation for showcasing future stars, with past participants including well-known acts such as Froukje, Rondé, and Chef’Special.
A diverse programme throughout the city
In Rotterdam, this year’s edition of Popronde will take place across an eclectic mix of locations. Iconic music venues such as Rotown (programmed by Baroeg), De Doelen, and WORM will host performances. However, some more unconventional venues, including the Markthal, the Mariniersmuseum, and the Bang & Olufsen audio shop, will also participate. In total, 14 new locations have been added to this year’s event, alongside the return of eight venues from previous editions.
The day’s events will begin at 13:00 with a performance by folk artist Levi Boon at bookshop Donner. Throughout the afternoon and evening, smaller “preview” performances will take place, offering attendees the chance to catch artists at multiple venues. The event will conclude with an afterparty at Club Centraal, featuring performances by Scherry, Absent Chronicles, and Enjaku Yoyo starting at midnight.
A growing festival with a local impact
Popronde Rotterdam has long been one of the larger editions of the nationwide festival. The Rotterdam edition previously won the ‘Best Festival’ category at the 2021 Rotterdam Music Awards. Its reputation continues to grow, with this year’s line-up promising an extensive tour through both popular and hidden locations across the city.
Attendees can expect a mix of musical genres, including pop, rock, hip-hop, funk, jazz, and electronic music. All performances are free of charge, making this an accessible and exciting event for both locals and visitors.
