This spring, the pop-up restaurant experience De Maaltuin will be hosted at Rotterdam's Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum. De Maaltuin is a travelling restaurant that opens at special locations such as castles, palaces, museums or botanical gardens. While dining, visitors are introduced to the stories of these locations through specially prepared culinary dishes and live music.
From 7 April, the spring edition of De Maaltuin will be held at Trompenburg Gardens & Arboretum, a beautiful botanical garden in the centre of Rotterdam. The garden has a large assortment of tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, magnolias and more special flowers, plants and trees that are in full bloom in the spring. De Maaltuin promises to be a series of wonderful evenings out in Rotterdam, with long dining tables among the greenery and live music.
On these nights, the food is prepared with fresh products and elements from the garden. Visitors are transported into the special environment with stories and experiences, while dining among the thousands of beautiful flowers and plants. A menu will be served that has been specially designed on the stories of Trompenburg, accompanied by a matching drink package of wines, beers and mocktails. Every evening, musicians provide live music, telling the stories of Trompenburg (in Dutch, we assume).

The theme of the coming edition is biodiversity, celebrating the beauty of spring. The garden will be in full bloom during this period, allowing visitors to marvel at the flora and fauna around them. The Maaltuin will pay a lot of attention to the special flowers and plants in the Trompenburg Gardens, such as the floral splendour of 700 different rhododendrons that can be found there. The oak collection for which Trompenburg is internationally renowned, including the monumental Pontic Oak, will be in full leaf in the spring. In addition, De Maaltuin delves into the family stories of the past, when Trompenburg still served as the country estate of a wealthy port family.
