HEMA Foundation reading afternoons in Rotterdam
On Wednesday, October 10th, HEMA Foundation organizes reading afternoons in 21 of it's HEMA stores throughout the Netherlands.
Children who are read aloud regularly develop a broad vocabulary, they learn to listen and concentrate well and they also perform better at school later on. Reading is also fun. That is why employees, store managers and loyal customers will be reading Jip & Janneke stories in 21 HEMA stores across the country.
After the reading, children get to work together while playing fun language games. Parents, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, grandfathers and grandmothers can also participate. Fresh treats and cups of coffee are provided.
The afternoon is suitable for children up to 8 years.

About HEMA Foundation
HEMA Foundation was founded in 2018. An independent foundation that, among other things, is committed to language skills. Good reading and writing can have a great positive impact on daily life. Yet 2.5 million Dutch people have great difficulty with this. And 1 in 10 Dutch children leave primary school without being able to read and write sufficiently.
Low literacy is often passed on from generation to generation. For kids growing up in a language-poor family where little is spoken and read aloud, the chance of low literacy later increases considerably. That is why HEMA Foundation supports language projects aimed at families with young children, sets up awareness campaigns and organizes language activities for young and old. Like this reading afternoon for children and their families.
