In recent years, women have been making a remarkable impact on the jazz scene, and the Fiori Collective is a shining example of this movement. This international ensemble, featuring four extraordinary talents from Finland, America, and Germany, showcases the vibrancy and innovation of contemporary jazz.
Kaisa Mäensivu is a Finnish bassist and bandleader known for leading her group Kaisa's Machine, performing on prominent stages worldwide, including North Sea Jazz. After studying at the Manhattan School of Music under Ron Carter, Kaisa has established herself as a composer and leader, with her second album Taking Shape solidifying her position as a dynamic force in modern jazz.
Nicole McCabe is a versatile saxophonist and composer from Los Angeles, active both as a bandleader and collaborator. A recent recipient of the Jeff Clayton Memorial New Note Award, Nicole’s latest album Live at Jamboree (2024) highlights her vibrant artistry. With two albums under her belt, she continues to shape the sound of contemporary jazz, captivating audiences with her intuitive compositions.
Sasha Berliner, an acclaimed vibraphonist, also performed at North Sea Jazz, turning heads with her innovative approach. Hailing from California, Sasha combines her classical training with elements of improvisation and emotional depth. With two standout albums, Azalea (2019) and Onyx (2022), Sasha is a rising star recognized as a leading voice in modern jazz.
