Chanson: A Grand Tribute to the French Chanson

Description

Step into the world of enchanting melodies and poetic lyrics with Chanson, a spectacular theatre concert paying homage to the timeless tradition of the French chanson. Featuring classics such as “La Vie en rose”, “La Bohème”, and “Ne me quitte pas”, the performance draws on masterpieces from legends like Édith Piaf, Charles Aznavour, and Jacques Brel. This lavish production brings together a remarkable ensemble of nineteen musicians and soloists, forming what may be the largest tribute to French chanson ever staged in the Netherlands. Audiences are transported to the streets of Paris through a journey of passion, melancholy, and romance, reliving the songs that have touched generations.

The show has been in the making for over a year and is set to tour Dutch theatres exclusively in 2025. Every chanson is given new life by a grand orchestra led by Hans Voerman, complete with wind and string sections. The soloists, each a specialist in the genre, are joined by dancer and choreographer Marc Forno, bringing the spirit of Paris’s Folies Bergère to Rotterdam.

The leading cast includes all-round singer Janneke Elisabeth as Édith Piaf, Filip Jordens as Jacques Brel, and Dan Menasche as “Monsieur Aznavour”. Each performer brings deep emotional intensity and stage presence to their roles, ensuring a moving and memorable celebration of the French chanson.
