Oded Tzur Quartet presents ‘My Prophet’ at LantarenVenster

Thoughtful yet profound – such is the voice of Oded Tzur’s saxophone. The Israeli-born saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, now based in New York, approaches music as both an art form and a spiritual practice. This philosophy has resonated with millions worldwide, with his distinctive style shining brightly. On his second ECM album, Isabela (2022), Tzur found the key to an evocative and universal musical language.

With his jazz ensemble, Tzur seamlessly integrates Indian music traditions. His tenor saxophone exudes a velvet touch reminiscent of John Coltrane. A significant part of Tzur’s musical journey is rooted in Rotterdam, where he studied at the Codarts Conservatory. His playing style is both tender and raw, capable of transcending genre boundaries.

Tzur reinterprets the legacy of jazz icons such as Son House and Howlin’ Wolf while tracing lines that echo ancient Indian ragas. The result is a unique blend of lyrical long-form notes that evoke timeless structures.

Returning to Rotterdam for the third time, Tzur will perform at LantarenVenster to present My Prophet, his latest project set to release under ECM Records in June 2024.
