New choreography set to a minimalist masterpiece

Górecki’s Third Symphony is widely regarded as one of the most powerful and moving works of the 20th century. As its vast and haunting melody reaches its emotional peak, the dancers of Conny Janssen Danst take the stage with a brand-new choreography that breathes physical life into the music. The performance takes place at de Doelen in Rotterdam.

Polish composer Henryk Górecki, a central figure in the movement of holy minimalism, was known for using repetition and spaciousness to create a sacred stillness—inviting reflection, contemplation, and serenity. His Third Symphony, also known as the Symphony of Sorrowful Songs, remains his most beloved and emotionally resonant composition.

This unique co-production between de Doelen and Conny Janssen Danst, created in collaboration with students from Codarts and the Royal Conservatoire, brings music and movement together in a deeply stirring fusion of sound and dance.
